A MATTER OF A CHOICE (good or bad)
People
think that peer pressure is found only among adolescents. That is not true.
During childhood, a child sees his friend possess a toy and tries to get
himself a similar toy.
As an adolescent, his friend encourages him to smoke. If
he doesn't, he is termed a "sissy". To be one among them, he begins
to smoke too. In adulthood, a person likes to be with the crowd and buys the
things which his/her neighbors have.
Peer pressure is mainly a problem of
choice. We make the wrong choices and succumb to peer pressure. We always have
a choice to choose between what is right and what is wrong. For example, if we
see our friends talking about bad things we know that what they are talking
about is not right, but we do not have the courage to stand up to them and prevent
them from doing so.
We make the wrong choices and follow the crowd. And when we
get into trouble, we conveniently give it the name of "peer
pressure". The only solution to this problem is to look to God for help
and build a strong character, so that we make the right choices. Friends are
lost and gained. God will not let the person down who does his will.
